Are you a self motivated individual that can lead a small group of park interpreters to deliver theme based programming and provide technical leadership and guidance? If so, then GHrundy Lake Provincial Park is the place for you.

At Grundy Lake Provincial Park, there are several lakes in the park off the Trans-Canada Highway, where you can paddle to the voyageurs' route along French and Pickerel rivers into Georgian Bay. The beaches and smooth rocky shores provide excellent swimming. And mixed forest marks this area as the boundary between north and south. Hiking trails explore the forest.

About the job

As a Senior Park Interpreter you will:

• provide technical, operational, monitoring and group leadership duties
• organize, schedule and provide recreational and naturalist activities
• participate in hiring, identify training needs of staff and assign work
• organize and prepare displays, pamphlets and news releases
• develop and implement a parks extension program for visitors
• collect and organize statistics, prepare annual operating strategies and year end reports
• advise, report, or record violations and complaints to the duty officer

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements:

• You must have the ability to obtain First Aid Certification.
• You must be able to work shifts, weekends and holidays as per schedule.
• You must possess a valid driver's licence to travel throughout the park.

Technical knowledge and interpretive skills:

• You possess knowledge of resource management principles and techniques.
• You have the ability to interpret relevant acts, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
• You are knowledgeable of natural sciences, ecosystems and culture.

Leadership skills:

• You possess a strong ability to provide leadership and direction to park staff.
• You demonstrate negotiation skills to problem solve and deal with staff and park issues in a professional manner.
• You possess excellent judgement skills to ensure staff are in compliance with workplace policies and procedures (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act) while also being able to make decisions in line with various policies and procedures.

Interpersonal, organizational and communication skills:

• You demonstrate group leadership, organization, research and presentation skills.
• You have proven interpersonal and communication skills to deal with clients, park staff and park visitors.
• You have the ability to work independently, follow and carry out instructions.

Computer skills:

• You are able to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher etc.), Internet and e-mail software applications.
• You are able to manage electronic records.
• You have the ability to operate and maintain audio-visual equipment and cameras.

Recreational knowledge:

• You possess working knowledge of and skills in outdoor recreational activities such as hiking and camping.

• The minimum salary rates identified in this posting are subject to revision as a result of the recently agreed to OPSEU collective agreement covering the period of January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014.
