About the job
You will:
- perform general maintenance to external buildings, fences and signs
- provide general grounds-keeping and maintenance services on a seasonal basis
- construct walls and repair locks
- repair roadway, parking lots and walkways
- perform routine cleaning duties
- maintain and repair grounds-keeping equipment
- provide semi-skilled maintenance services and general assistance to tradespersons
- monitor safety equipment and systems
- conduct and document fire drills
- develop annual and monthly maintenance schedules
- supervise, teach and engage youth in the completion of maintenance activities
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
- valid driver's licence required to drive youth to appointments and facilitate regular maintenance of fleet;
- ability to meet the physical demands of the essential duties of the position.
Specialized knowledge:
- knowledge of safe operation, maintenance and basic repair of related equipment for grass cutting, snow removal as well as safe operations of hand tools and equipment;
- demonstrated experience in performing general maintenance work such as repairs to building, painting, constructing walls, replacing locks and cleaning;
- general knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry principles and semi-skilled repairs using plans, diagrams and blueprints;
- general knowledge of heating, ventilation and cooling systems;
- general knowledge of safety equipment and security systems;
- general knowledge of horticultural theories and practices such as flower, shrub and tree planting as well as maintenance and general groundskeeping.
Other important skills:
- well developed communication skills;
- proven interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with tradespersons and develop positive relationships with youth;
- basic computer skills and knowledge of a variety of software programs.
