About the job

As a Park Warden you will carry out a variety of technical duties and program responsibilities including:
• Assisting with enforcement and security.
• Resource management.
• Carrying out a variety of technical duties.
• Facility sanitation and general park maintenance.
• Assisting with customer service and providing information to park visitors.
• Providing leadership related to enforcement and visitor programs.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• Ability to work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule is essential.
• You will be required to be designated as a Park Warden** and meet ministry certification criteria and standards in the use of force; this is physically demanding and essentially requires good physical health.
• Minimum valid Class G Driver's licence as recognized by the Province of Ontario
• You will be required to obtain Standard First Aid and a CPR Certificate
• Physical ability to carry out functions of position.

**Please note the following information:

To become designated as a Park Warden, the mandatory requirements are:
- minimum of 19 years of age
- valid driver's licence
- satisfactory criminal record/reference check

PLUS any one of the following points:

- at least one season of work experience in a provincial park, plus graduation from the Park Warden Course
- previous designation and experience as a police officer, conservation officer or park warden in some other agency, plus graduation from the Park Warden Course
- successful completion of at least one year of Community College Law and Security Course (Includes Natural Resources Law Enforcement Courses), plus graduation from the Park Warden Course

The following mandatory training requirements must be successfully completed to be designated as a Park Warden:

1) Successful completion of the Park Warden Course
2) Annual attendance at a Zone Enforcement Workshop and any local training and orientation
3) Successful completion of the mandatory Use of Force training as identified in Enforcement Branch policy ENF PO 4.04.01 “use of force training standards”

Your technical knowledge will include

• Working knowledge of resource management principles and practices applicable to Parks.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply and enforce relevant acts and regulations.
• Working knowledge of building and utility maintenance.

Your technical abilities will include

• Ability and experience in safe outdoor travel and navigation (handling boats/canoes).
• Ability to operate and maintain a variety of light powered equipment such as lawnmowers, chainsaws, boats and small hand tools.
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.

• Organizational skills and the ability to work independently and follow and carry out instructions.
• Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively.
• Leadership skills.
