About the job

Work Description:

You may be required to work on some or all of the following tasks:

• Some positions might assist traffic engineering staff in the review, analysis and documentation of highway operational concerns e.g. speeding, restricted sight lines, signal timing or the need for illumination etc.
• Some positions might assist staff with technical support in several areas including the review, approval and coordination of contractor right-of-way usage and closures, capacity analysis, collision analysis, roadside hazards, traffic control signals and systems
• Provide technical support to clients by email and phone and resolve operational problems
• Conduct field and technical investigations
• Collect, review, verify and document information to support the delivery of Traffic programs
• Plan, organize, coordinate and manage daily assigned work
• Work may require experience specified/listed in the questions below

Mandatory requirements

Some positions require students to be 15-24 years of age (or 15-29 years of age if you are a person with a disability) due to program funding.

Some positions may require the successful candidate(s) to undergo a personal security screening check as a condition of employment.

Qualification Requirements

Communication and Interpersonal skills
• You use customer service skills to assist clients by email and phone; to assist in responding to complaints, deal with public inquiries
• You apply your written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports, document findings, record data)
• You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team

Technical Skills and Knowledge
• You apply knowledge of traffic engineering theory, traffic practices and principles, traffic control devices (including traffic signals, signs and pavement markings)
• You apply knowledge of collision and capacity analysis and related data collection, processing and projection techniques, highway design, etc.
• You can make recommendations and/or track results for Traffic reports/projects, based on observation
• You apply your experience using Microsoft Office product suite, such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases; email and Internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents

Analytical and Organizational Skills
• You research, compile, synthesize and summarize information; you conduct data and trend analysis
• You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines

Other Requirements
• You can conduct inspections, site visits, and investigations
• You can work in an outdoor environment
• You must have a valid Ontario G2 Driver's Licence (or higher) with an excellent record
