About the job
Work Description:
• Assist with the collection, entry and analysis of water resources data specific to: groundwater, surface water, geomorphology, meteorology, water quality (e.g. benthics and chemistry) or fish. Specialized equipment will be used and maintained in the collection of the data
• Provide assistance to the Fish and Wildlife program by conducting research including fieldwork to assemble and draft information, writing reports on fish and wildlife resources
• Assist in carrying out field work including conducting fish and benthic sampling, and inspections of facilities and grounds and other aspects of Water Resource Management (e.g. contaminant sources, mapping, delineation etc.)
• Position requires lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations
• Position requires ability and comfort in operating 4X4 trucks, All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), outdoor motor boats and small watercraft in remote situations

Mandatory requirements
Some positions require students to be 15-24 years of age (or 15-29 years of age if you are a person with a disability) due to program funding.

Qualification Requirements:
Communication and Organizational Skills
• Written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports, document findings, and record data)
• Requires good listening skills to follow directions and ability to seek clarification on instructions in order to record data/information accurately
• Administrative record keeping skills to complete daily log entries, payments and maintenance reports of inspections paying attention to detail and recording information accurately
• You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
Technical Skills
• Knowledge and experience operating ATVs. Additional training on safety operating and usage will be provided
• Knowledge and experience operating of boats, motors, and safety operating practices using machinery and equipment other specialized tools. Additional training will be provided
• Knowledge and experience in conducting field work
• You will be provided with training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
• Microsoft Office product suite skills, such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases; using the email and Internet to conduct research
Other Requirements
• Ability to work in an outdoor environment with some physical activity involved, including lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment. Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations
• Some positions may require you to have a valid Ontario G2 driver's license (or higher)
• Some positions may require you to have or acquire a Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate
