Work Description:

As part of the Ministry of Education, the Child Care Quality Assurance and Licensing Branch (CCQAL) supports quality child care programs through our corporate office in Toronto and 6 quality assurance and licensing teams across the province. Our work includes licensing and monitoring visits to licensed child care centres and home child care agencies according to the requirements of the Day Nurseries Act, and on-going support for quality programs in these settings. As an Early Childhood Assistant, you will provide support to branch staff in carrying out a range of quality assurance and licensing activities. While participating in the program, Early Childhood Assistants will participate in licensing visits to child care centres and gain experience in the area of licensing and quality child care programming.

• Work with professional staff (Program Advisors, Policy Advisors) to support work related to licensing child care centres
• Participate in written communication and documentation related to quality child care programs (e.g. Early Learning Framework)
• Participate in developmental opportunities and team meetings regarding licensing goals, interpretation of the Day Nurseries Act, and supporting quality programs
• Work requires experience/education specified in the questions below
• Travel may be required

Mandatory requirements

Some positions require students to be 15-24 years of age (or 15-29 years of age if you are a person with a disability) due to program funding.

Qualification Requirements:

Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• You use customer service, interpersonal and verbal skills to converse with child care providers
• You apply your written skills to support the completion of documentation related to quality assurance and licensing
• You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a regional team

Technical Skills and Knowledge
• Basic knowledge and understanding of early learning/child development theory and practice (e.g. gained through Post-Secondary Early Childhood Education degree or diploma programs, relevant work experience, etc.)
• It is preferred that you have basic understanding of the Day Nurseries Act and/or approaches in regulatory oversight
• You have basic computer literacy skills (e.g. email, internet searches etc.)

Analytical and Organizational Skills
• You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
• You exercise good judgement when working with child care providers
• You apply your discretion when working with confidential information

Requirements
• A valid Ontario G2 Driver's Licence (or higher) with an excellent record may be required for some positions
