About the job
The Ontario Science Centre Summer Day Camp is an incredible place for children to exercise their minds. Campers can experience a science and technology adventure full of exciting exploration and discovery, in a fun, hands-on setting. We require enthusiastic Senior Science Counsellors to implement a variety of science-based programs and to take on a leadership role in the supervision of day camp activities, as well as mentoring Junior Counsellors and Camp Volunteers. Senior Science Counsellors will work as a team to deliver science-related demonstrations and activities in a safe, organized, and engaging manner to the 270 children (ages 5 to 12) attending camp each week. Statutory holiday work, and extended hours on a rotational basis, will be required. Other tasks may be required as assigned by Supervisors
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
-Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C (must be obtained prior to first day of Camp, July 2nd, 2013)
Knowledge and Skills
-Exceptional leadership skills
-Previous camp counsellor experience and related recreational experiences such as coaching, dramatic arts.
-Excellent communication and visitor care/customer service skills and experience
-Experience presenting dynamic interactive educational demonstrations and/or workshops
-Demonstration of:
• strong interest in science and technology
• the ability to work independently and in group settings
• experience leading and supervising diverse groups of children including different age groups, learning abilities/styles, and/or special needs
• ability to work in a setting requiring multi-tasking and flexibility
Note: The minimum salary rates identified in this posting are subject to revision as a result of the recently agreed to OPSEU collective agreement covering the period of January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014
