Selkirk Provincial Park is a naturalist's paradise.
It's diverse ecosystem includes marshes, wetland, open grasses and mature Carolinian forest. With 151 campsites, a park store, and hiking trails this recreational class park is located just southwest of the town of Selkirk along the Lake Erie coastline. It offers a variety of lifestyle and recreational experiences including markets, wineries, fishing and golf.
About the job
In this role, under the general supervision of the Assistant Park Superintendent, you will:
• provide group leadership for a variety of technical duties and program responsibilities associated with the day-to-day operation of the campgrounds and day use areas
• carry out various resource management activities within Selkirk Provincial Park, while leading the park maintenance and cleaning programs
What you bring to the team
Mandatory Requirements:
• ability to be designated as a Park Warden and meet ministry certification criteria and standards in Use of Force
• ability to obtain a Standard First Aid Certificate
• ability to obtain certification as Limited Sub System Water Operator
• ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays
• valid driver's licence – class “G” or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario
Required knowledge:
• knowledge of resource management principles and practices
• ability to interpret and applied relevant legislation, policies and standards associated with park management
• knowledge of park maintenance activities and related equipment (eg. lawn mowers, tractors, chainsaws, brush saws, etc.)
• knowledge of general administrative practices and procedures (eg. purchasing supplies and materials)
• knowledge of relevant workplace safety policies and procedures (eg. Occupational Health and Safety Act)
Required skills:
• group leadership skills to provide direction to park staff
• communication skills to address complaints and respond to questions from park visitors
• planning and coordination skills to independently organize your workload to meet deadlines
• proficiency with a variety of computer software applications (eg. word processing, spreadsheet, databases, electronic mail, etc.)
