The Ministry of Transportation, Facilities and Business Services Branch, is seeking an experienced professional to undertake duties as a Chauffeur/Special Assistant to senior government officials, such as the Lieutenant Governor, Premier, Cabinet Ministers, Parliamentary Assistants, Deputy Ministers and visiting dignitaries.

The hours of work will be between 6am - 12am (2 shifts) for both the Permanent and Temporary vacancies.

The Temporary vacancies will be on an on-call basis, weekends, evenings and days.

About the job

You will:
• transport and assist senior government officials while ensuring client safety and security
• plan effective and efficient routes, drop points and departure locations, alternatives and contingencies
• coordinate and organize trips and client itineraries
• courier confidential and highly sensitive cabinet documents, red-tag documents, mail, packages and other items
• ensure the safe operation and maintenance of Ministry fleet and client vehicles by performing preventative maintenance inspections and repairs.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You must have a valid Ontario Class 'G' or 'F' Driver's License
• For the Temporary On Call vacancies the response time to report to work must be within one hour

Knowledge and Technical Skills:

• You have demonstrated knowledge of applicable traffic laws
• You know security procedures and practices in order to ensure safety, security and confidentiality
• You have demonstrated knowledge of routine preventative maintenance requirements and techniques including basic automotive technology and vehicle maintenance and repair equipment
• You know safe work practices when working around rotating engine parts, moving vehicles, elevated vehicles, confined spaces, solvents and cleaners
• You have knowledge of Toronto and Ontario road network with the ability to use electronic and paper maps, directories, guides and GPS navigational devices for best route selection
• You know First Aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques

Analytical, Problem-Solving and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have proven analytical and problem solving skills
• You have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with tact, courtesy and diplomacy
• You can use tact and sound judgement when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters

Please note: The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of a valid Ontario Class 'G' or 'F' Driver's Licence prior to the commencement of employment. The ministry may also require the successful candidate to wear a uniform.
