About the job

In this position you will:

• provide structural engineering expertise in safety assurance and infrastructure management activities
• manage the delivery of design projects for transportation structures undertaken primarily by external consultants
• communicate effectively with management, external agencies and the public
• carry out structure rehabilitation design, bridge inspection, planning and hydrology studies
• conduct construction liaison, review contractors' submissions and provide advice and solve problems on-site
• carry out structure evaluations and designs of simple structures including the preparation of related contract documents

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You must be licensed by the Professional Engineers of Ontario.

Technical knowledge:

• You have proven knowledge of and experience in structural engineering and design practices related to bridges and other transportation structures (design, analysis, evaluation, rehabilitation).
• You demonstrate knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC), structural maintenance, inspections and operations, foundation and hydrology designs, and structural planning.

Project management and technical administration skills:

• You have proven ability to manage consultant assignments, identify and resolve technical and administrative issues.
• You have experience with contract preparation and delivery processes.
• You have effective organizational, project management, and leadership skills.

Problem solving and decision making skills:

• You are able to identify problems, gather necessary information, investigate, interpret and analyze risks, make decisions, and prepare contingency plans and/or action.

Communications and interpersonal skills:

• You possess communication skills to exchange information, discuss mutual problems and provide/obtain advice.
• You have interpersonal, negotiation and mediation skills to ensure effective team work.
