About the job
• Assist with the coordination and implementation of project plans for aquatic and terrestrial habitat restoration and protection in priority areas including fish and wildlife populations
• Assist with field inventory or monitoring of fish and wildlife / natural heritage features and values
• Participate on relevant project teams to help establish objectives, transfer information, and report on progress.
• Assist in acquiring the necessary GIS resources to provide timely and relevant input into aquatic and terrestrial protection and restoration projects
• Assist in developing and coaching funding proposals and leveraging with partners
• Assist with conducting public education and awareness presentations and handout materials
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• Valid Ontario Driver's License
• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
• Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years; and
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in a maximum of two placements.
Knowledge and Skills
• Knowledge of biology and ecology including conservation biology, restoration ecology and biodiversity conservation.
• Knowledge of current natural resource inventory, monitoring and assessment techniques to carry out natural resource field work to assist in the monitoring and assessment of wildlife habitat, and water quality
• Understanding of conservation issues, and legislative and planning tools that support the protection of natural heritage values and areas in Ontario.
• Knowledge of analytical techniques and computer applications in order to analyze data and prepare reports; including geographic information systems and mapping to effectively manage and implement assigned projects.
• Well developed interpersonal, oral and written communications skills to work with Ministry partners to prepare and present policy and program materials and reports
• Organizational skills to coordinate monitoring and restoration implementation.
Please Note: The successful candidate will begin at the base-level pay rate and will move up in the pay scale in accordance with the OPSEU collective agreement.
