About the job

Working closely with the Branch's senior statistical analyst, policy analysts and with the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) Team Lead, Modelling and Forecasting, you will:

• collect, manipulate and present statistical data
• assist with the development of new systems
• provide data and technical analysis and support
• assist in meeting data requirements for cost analysis, forecasting and program simulation
• produce annual OSAP statistical products
• prepare operational data, reports and updates
• communicate with contacts in the federal government for data exchange and program changes
• analyze requirements and design work flow and data collection processes
• write program code using computer language to create data fields, data files and reports
• assist with the identification of system production problems
• automate data retrieval and reporting processes and create, maintain and enhance data bases
• provide end-user training

What you bring to the team


Technical skills:

• knowledge of mathematics, research, statistical analysis methodologies and procedures, statistical theory and principles to determine user's data requirements
• knowledge of the operation of computers, computer system file structures and operating systems, as well as computer software such as Excel, Access, IBM Showcase suite of tools (Warehouse Builder and Query), IBM iSeries Query, IBM Cognos, and DB2-400 for data collection and processing
• knowledge of OS/400 command language and SQL language as well as data warehousing concepts and methodologies to build multi-dimensional data cubes and data
• knowledge of programming concepts, testing, procedure writing, and object-oriented analysis
• ability to acquire and apply knowledge of the Student Support Branch programs and policies to identify data requirements and information sources

Communication, interpersonal and presentation skills:

• oral communication skills to discuss or clarify technical information
• written communication prepare user-friendly statistical reports for management
• presentation skills to train staff on the use of end-user analysis tools
• interpersonal skills to explain and encourage cooperation with data gathering initiatives, work closely other branches and other jurisdictions

Other important skills:

• analytical, research and judgement skills
• planning and organizational skills to multitask, meet deadlines and provide excellent customer service
• ability to work with a high level of accuracy and care in extracting and checking data
