Do you enjoy rolling up your sleeves to tackle challenging and complex issues? Make your mark with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Species at Risk Branch as a Permits and Agreements Officer. In this role, you will embark on the development of new and emerging, high profile and sensitive policy development to support Ontario in its implementation of the Endangered Species Act.
About the job
You will:
-coordinate and/or conduct projects for the development and implementation of policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines
-conduct biological, ecological, resource management, socio/economic and environmental risk assessment, reviews and analysis of SAR permits/agreements applications
-provide species at risk expertise, advice and guidance to ministry staff and external stakeholders
What you bring to the team
Specialized knowledge
• experience applying policy research, analysis and development principles, methods and techniques
• knowledge of specialized environmental scanning methods
• knowledge of the theory, principles, and field research methods/practices of biology/ecology, natural resource management, socio-economic and environmental risk assessment planning and management
• knowledge of the government agenda related to the protection, conservation, recovery and management of species at risk
Analytical skills
• demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation
• conceptual, research and analytical skills to lead/conduct policy research and analysis
Leadership skills
• ability to provide technical leadership and guidance to assigned staff on a project basis
