About the job

In this role, you will become a key team member in providing safe drinking water to more than 400,000 local residents.

The Lake Huron Primary Water Treatment System (LHPWSS) is a Class 4 surface water treatment facility and a Class 4 distribution system with a rated capacity of 454 million liters per day. The LHPWSS is located in Grand Bend.

In this role, you will use your skills to operate and maintain water treatment projects and other support facilities within the Huron Area.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• Certification in Water Treatment Class 4 and Water Distribution Class 4. Minimum requirement Class 1 Water Treatment and Class 1 Water Distribution.
• May consider lesser qualified candidates as underfill - minimum Operator-in-Training (OIT), as specified in O.Reg. 128/04 of the Safe Drinking Water Act and O.Reg. 129/04 of the Ontario Water Resources Act.
• Valid Class G driver's license.
• Must be available for overtime and ability to be on-call after regular working hours.
• The incumbent must commit to locating within a 30 minute driving time of the facility and work both night and day shifts as part of a 12 hour rotating shift schedule.

Knowledge

• Applied knowledge of the operation of water treatment, distribution and residual management facilities, operating standards, regulations, best practices, optimization and efficiency techniques and procedures.
• Sound mathematical and record keeping skills; operational and maintenance knowledge of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems.
• Sound computer skills (SCADA, CMMS and other reporting, record keeping systems).
• Proven experience in process control using manual and SCADA systems, sampling, laboratory skills, chemical dosage calculations.
• Knowledge of related legislation.

Skills and Ability include

• Analytical, problem-solving, planning and scheduling skills to: inspect, operate and monitor the facilities processes and equipment, and perform routine preventive maintenance; take samples of the water and/or wastewater chemicals to make process control adjustments; resolve operating issues.
• Good oral and written communication skills to liaise with a variety of staff, clients, suppliers, keep logs and complete reports.
• Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative.
• Ability to perform manual labour.
