Consider this challenging opportunity in the Superior Court of Justice as an Irregular On-Call Category Court Recording Monitor, where you will record court proceedings verbatim using electronic monitoring equipment and produce transcripts.
NOTE: The Court Recording Monitor position requires that employees prepare transcripts on their own time, using their own equipment within specific timeframes. Employees will receive a prescribed fee for the completion of transcripts.
NOTE: In this position you may be asked to work from 0 to 36.25 hours per week, however, the average hours worked are approximately 10-16 hours per month.
About the job
In this position, you will be responsible for:
• operating electronic monitoring equipment to accurately record court proceedings;
• maintaining a written log of proceedings;
• providing playback in court;
• preparing verbatim transcripts of court proceedings on request [Note: transcripts are prepared on incumbents own time with own equipment within prescribed timelines and will receive a prescribed fee];
• indexing and filing court records.

Job may require candidates to work overtime, weekends, statutory holidays and to travel to other court locations as required.
Qualifications:
• organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail;
• ability to multi-task in a high demand work environment to meet strict deadlines;
• ability to research case law and understand legal terminology to complete transcripts;
• knowledge of relevant provincial and federal acts to understand the nature of court proceedings;
• proficiency in English oral and written communication skills;
• ability to speak publicly in a courtroom setting; judgement, discretion and confidentiality in dealing with judiciary, counsel and the public; proficiency with computer applications to accurately key information;
• ability to operate various electronic recording and transcribing devises to maintain formatting standards and proficiency in grammar and spelling for the production of transcripts.
