About the job

As part of the Lake Erie management team, you will:

• organize/coordinate the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of data in support of rehabilitation components for sustainable development of the Lakes Erie and St. Clair aquatic resources and ecosystems
• conduct reporting and provide to the assessment findings to the supervisor
• provide science advice for fisheries management by interpreting current status of aquatic populations in the lakes, tributaries, wetland and near shore habitats
• recommend strategies for habitat and aquatic animal rehabilitation

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements:

• You must possess a valid driver's licence.
• You must have the ability to obtain an Electrofishing certification.
• You must have the ability to work in adverse and inclement weather.

Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of theories, principles and practices concerning aquatic ecosystems and their management (i.e. fish communities, limnology, the structure and function of food webs, etc.).
• You possess knowledge of impacts of land use practices on aquatic ecosystems, and strategies to remediate for those impacts.
• You have knowledge and experience with information technology, database management/word processing/graphics software.
• You are knowledgeable of statistics, experimental design and modelling techniques to design sampling and experimental studies, analyse and interpret results.

Technical skills:

• You have the ability to use scientific methods to support rehabilitation and promote conservation and have project findings reviewed and accepted by peers.
• You demonstrate the ability to apply and interpret policies, acts, regulations and directives.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You possess well developed oral communication skills to communicate and provide advice to audiences ranging from the public to research scientists, conduct presentations, and training.
• You have written communication skills to prepare presentations, technical reports, scientific summaries, briefing notes, and correspondence.
• You demonstrate interpersonal skills to foster relationships with clients and to negotiate and consult with team, agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO's), municipal and community partners on projects and programs.

Project management skills:

• You are able to develop and implement actual work plan for lake assessments.
• You demonstrate abilities to plan, organize and implement projects to acquire information in support of rehabilitation initiatives and objectives.

Analytical and problem solving skills:

• You possess analytical and evaluative skills to examine scientific research, information and results.
• You have problem solving skills to detect and clarify problems, evaluate options and identify approaches for assessment.
