In this position you will lead the development and maintenance of Ontario's forest policy and legislation. If you are a highly motivated, results-oriented individual with proven policy development skills, consider this position in forest policy with emphasis on investigating approaches to address climate change.
About the job
In this role, you will:
• lead and coordinate teams to develop policy and program proposals that include risk analyses and impact assessments
• provide advice and recommendations on Ontario forest policy and legislation
• provide leadership on policy and program direction
• monitor, assess and evaluate forest sustainability results and trends
• review and assess policy transfer and implementation processes
• lead and coordinate consultations with stakeholders
What you bring to the team
Knowledge:
• You have thorough knowledge of resource management practices and procedures and possess the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation in respect to developing and evaluating forest policy.
• You have well developed knowledge of the policy analysis, development and evaluation process and sound decision making skills.
Project management and organizational skills:
• You have strong project management, work planning, organizing, and coordinating skills to manage numerous projects at once.
• You have consistent capacity to produce high quality results on time.
Relationship building skills:
• You are experienced in fostering and maintaining partnerships with other Ontario Ministries, governments in other jurisdicitions, First Nations, internal and external stakeholders.
• You possess well developed consultation, negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills to lead consultations, represent the ministry and deal with contentious issues and situations.
Communications and interpersonal skills:
• You have strong written communication skills to prepare briefing notes, reports, policy papers, and presentations.
• You demonstrate oral communication skills to provide information, interpretation, advice and recommendations.
• You possess interpersonal skills to deal with clients on sensitive issues in a professional and tactful manner.
Research, analytical and evaluative skills:
• You have well-developed conceptual, research, analytical and evaluation skills to develop practical, effective and efficient long and short term policy.
• You have the ability to anticipate and absorb complex, inter-related, large scale issues.
