If so, the Ministry of the Attorney General, Court Services Division requires an individual to provide clerical, cashier and counter services to maintain the efficient operation of the court office.

The number of positions to be filled has not been identified at this time. This competition will be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill upcoming opportunities within the next eighteen months following the closing date of the job ad posting.

About the job

Working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadline demands, you will:

• receive, record and process a variety of court documents at the public counter
• respond and provide information to telephone and counter inquiries from the public, lawyers and law enforcement agencies
• receive, issue and sign court orders
• operate a cash register, calculate, collect fees, process payments and issue invoices
• prepare deposits for the revenue and trust accounts
• input and update data on a manual or computerized system
• maintain filing systems, provide administrative and clerical support to the court office

What you bring to the team


Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of court systems and practices to process and prepare court documents
• You have ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and regulations (example: Courts of Justice Act, Criminal Code, Young Offenders Act, Family Law Act)
• You have knowledge of office procedures and practices to provide administrative and clerical support to the court office

Organizational and Analytical Skills:

• You have good organizational skills and proven ability to set priorities and complete work to strict deadlines
• You have demonstrated analytical skills
• You are accurate and pay close attention to detail

Customer Service, Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have excellent customer service and communication skills to liaise and deal effectively with clients (example: public, judiciary, legal professions) at the counter and on the phone
• You can prepare routine correspondence and reports
• You have excellent interpersonal skills to handle requests, deal with difficult public inquiries and deal with a variety of client emotions

Cash Control and Mathematical Skills:

You have:
• strong mathematical skills to perform calculations related to cash
• ability to handle cash including balancing and reconciling at the end of each day
• ability to operate a cash register

Computer Skills:

• You are proficient in the use of personal computers and related software (e.g. Word, Excel, database and mainframe computer systems)
• You have keyboarding skills to enter data quickly and accurately
