About the job
You will:
• provide a full range of legal secretarial services
• provide a variety of administrative and clerical services
• utilize a personal computer to transcribe a variety of documents in proper legal style
• accept service on various documents
• maintain Ontario and Superior Court files
• type Superior Court subpoenas
• provide reception duties by answering the telephone and dealing with inquiries at the counter
Please Note: This position will be on an 'as required' basis with no guarantee of the number of hours worked (0 to 36.25 per week).
What you bring to the team
Mandatory:
• you can type 50 words per minute with dicta skills at 70% using a personal computer with standard software
Administrative Knowledge and Skills:
• you have knowledge of legal terminology and the criminal justice system to administer program processes and prepare legal documents
• you demonstrate knowledge of secretarial, administrative and office procedures
• you have the ability to use computer equipment with related software such as Windows, Word, Outlook and related database applications
• you have excellent oral and written communication skills by using appropriate legal terminology when providing information to the legal profession, police, victims/witnesses, media, court staff and the general public
• you can calculate and process travel claims, invoices, and witness expense documents
• you have demonstrated initiative and good judgement to determine appropriate administrative procedures and processes when preparing for proceedings and typing legal documents
• your analytical skills enable you to determine confidentiality of privileged information and its release conditions
• you can organize and prioritize your workload in order to meet deadlines
• you have interpersonal skills and experience working effectively as a team member with minimal supervision
