What can I expect to do in this role?

The Ministry of Natural Resources is offering a great opportunity as a Seasonal Fire Management Technician, with the fire management team in the Kenora Fire Management Headquarters. Working out of the Kenora Attack Base, you will provide leadership as part of the team, and perform forest fire management activities throughout Ontario and other jurisdictions.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

knowledge of forest fire suppression tactics, aerial operations, fire behaviour management principles, and relevant legislation (Forest Fires Suppression Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act); proven group leadership, presentation and interpersonal skills as well as good oral and written communication; demonstrated analytical, planning and coordination skills; knowledge and ability to utilize various computer software applications (databases, word processing, geographic information systems); knowledge and demonstrated ability in the operation and maintenance of forest fire suppression equipment and related equipment (pumps, chainsaws, GPS) to meet forest fire suppression objectives; physical ability to meet demands of fire suppression activities and willingness to work for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions; must be qualified as an Incident Commander Level 5 (requires Initial Attack Incident Commander Course SP300 or equivalent); valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator's Certificate and a valid drivers licence.
