Work Description:
Ontario Parks offers two exciting educational programs called Learn to Camp and Learn to Fish. These unique programs engage people in outdoor activities by providing hands-on learning opportunities related to camping and fishing
Program leaders are needed to introduce new people to camping and fishing in Ontario. The successful candidates will work in a team to lead all aspects of the Learn to Camp/Learn to Fish programs including: organizing and conducting teaching sessions, maintenance and inventory of equipment and supplies, and providing support to program marketing activities.
Duties:
• Prepare and deliver teaching sessions based on an established curriculum.
• Maintain, track and manage all equipment required for program delivery.
• Maintain accurate records (e.g. equipment inventory, attendance records) and complete post-program reports.
• Deliver presentations to park visitors and local community groups.
• Support program marketing activities provincially and locally (e.g., lead promotional events, develop content for online posting and e-newsletters, take group photos and video footage, support media coverage).
• Work may require experience specified/listed in the questions below or other similar tasks as assigned

Mandatory requirements
All positions require students to be 15 years of age on the first day of employment with no age limit.
Some positions require students to be 15-24 years of age (or 15-29 years of age if you are a person with a disability) on the first day of employment due to program funding.
Some positions on this job ad will require the successful candidate to undergo a general-level screening check, which includes a criminal record check, at their own expense.
Qualification Requirements
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• You apply your oral communication skills to deliver programs to audiences, to provide information and to perform public speaking.
• You apply your written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents to support program marketing (e.g. e-newsletters, online postings) and management (e.g., post program reports).
• You use your interpersonal skills to provide excellent customer service to park visitors of all ages and backgrounds, and to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Organizational Skills
• You apply your organizational skills to track and manage program equipment
• You plan, organize, track and prioritize multiple duties (e.g. overnight programs, community presentations, marketing activities, track inventory/attendance) and meet competing deadlines.
Flexibility and Judgement
• You exercise your good judgement while working under minimal supervision.
• You are able to adapt programs to changing circumstances (e.g. late arrivals, inclement weather conditions).
Technical Skills and Knowledge
• You apply your extensive knowledge of camping/fishing practices and equipment during teaching sessions and lead diverse groups of people with varying needs through creative, engaging and fun teaching sessions.
• You are comfortable working outdoors leading large groups of participants in a campground or lakeside setting for extended periods of time.
• You apply your knowledge and/or experience with writing/photography/videography to produce creative promotional materials for the program.
• You have experience with and/or general knowledge of the Ontario Parks system (e.g., role, priorities, rules and regulations, specific parks, fishing regulations).
• You apply your technical knowledge of various computer software and hardware to support program activities (e.g., registration tracking, creation of promotional materials).
WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS
• You possess a valid G2 or higher Ontario Drivers Licence (knowledge or experience operating a vehicle with a trailer is considered an asset).
• You have current training and certification in first-aid and CPR.
• You are able to work shift, weekends with an irregular work schedule up to 40 hours/week and work in an outdoor environment.
