In this role, you will be part of a regional and corporate team of professionals consisting of: occupational hygiene consultants, ergonomic consultants, engineers, radiation specialists and medical consultants.
About the job
You will:
• provide professional advice and consultation on occupational health and safety hazards
• anticipate, recognize and evaluate physical, chemical and biological agents
• perform occupational hygiene inspections in health care, institutional, industrial, construction, mining workplaces
• enforce occupational health and safety legislation
• provide consultation, advice, recommendations to Ministry inspectors and workplace representatives
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
• you are eligible for certification in occupational hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists
• you have a minimum valid driver's licence class of “G2” or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario
• you have the ability to travel extensively, respond to after-hour calls, and the ability to work evenings and weekends as part of regular scheduled work
Industry knowledge:
• you have knowledge of occupational hygiene principles and methods
• you have knowledge of physiology, toxicology, epidemiology and industrial ventilation as they relate to occupational hygiene
• you have knowledge of federal and provincial occupational health and safety legislation
Inspection skills:
• you have experience performing occupational hygiene inspections and health hazard and exposure control assessments related to various occupational sectors (health care, institutional, industrial, construction, mining, etc.)
• you have the ability to anticipate, identify and evaluate physical, biological and chemical occupational health hazards and recommend control measures
Enforcement skills:
• you have the ability to interpret, apply and enforce occupational health and safety legislation
Other important skills:
• you have proven consultation skills to provide professional advice and recommendations to internal and external clients
• you have strong oral communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships with labour and management groups
• you are proficient with computers and a variety of computer software and information technology systems to track and analyze data and prepare reports
