About the job
You will:
• assume responsibility for closeout and reporting activities for client and estate trust accounts
• perform financial analysis and re-conciliations of client trust accounts transactions
• contact potential heirs/next of kin and provide assistance in order to transfer estates to heirs
• assist in the verification of legal documents and communicate with many external parties to ensure that all relevant court documents are delivered
• have the opportunity to work closely with many different branches within the OPS in an effort to locate beneficiaries for our clients estates
What you bring to the team
Mandatory:
• you are proficient in English and oral and written French at the advanced level
Technical Knowledge:
• you have in-depth knowledge of trust accounting and auditing principles, practices and procedures including experience auditing account transactions for compliance and in implementing internal controls processes
• you have the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation (e.g. Succession Law Reform Act, Rules of Civil Procedure, Substitute Decisions Act and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA))
• you have general knowledge of legal proceedings, practices and documentation related to estate administration to ensure correct treatment of trust financial transactions
Analytical Skills:
• you have well developed analytical and problem solving skills to perform financial analyses, adjustments and reconciliations, ensuring correct financial processes and to conduct effective searches for beneficiaries of estates, analysis of legal documents and to manage complex caseloads
Communication Skills:
• you have excellent oral and written communication skills to clearly explain complex issues and explain policies and procedures to beneficiaries, families, estate trustees, guardians and lawyers
• you have strong interpersonal skills to work with internal staff and external organizations to resolve issues and to negotiate contracts with vendors which can include, clients, lawyers, bankers, custodians and financial institutions
Computer Skills:
• you have advanced computer skills with spreadsheet, word processing and accounting software packages
