Fort William Historical Park is one of the largest living history attractions in North America. The park provides cultural, heritage, entertainment and educational experiences for residents and visitors to Northwestern Ontario.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for history in the early 1800's to coordinate and deliver public programs, including dramas, tours, historical and natural history interpretation, recreational activities and special events.

PLEASE NOTE: This position may require you to attend overnight functions, travel to out of town events and off-hour programs, and work on holidays and weekends.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• Provide assistance in the research, development, training and implementation of Bourgeois, Voyageur and Tour Guide (BVT) activities and Living History programming;
• Participate in historical dramatizations, pageants, festivals, events, education and outreach programs, and ensure accuracy in the depiction of public programs;
•Participate in the development and implementation of recreational and natural history programming;
• Provide technical direction to students, review and monitor quality of work;
• Complete research, create scripts, develop resources, drama material and program outlines;
• Act as a resource to operational areas and stakeholders in the implementation of Living History, special event and education program activities.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Valid class G driver's licence

Knowledge

• You have knowledge of the North American fur trade and its influence on the development of Canada, particularly for historic Fort William and the North West Company
• You have knowledge of museum guide principles, techniques and applications for Living and Natural History
• You have knowledge of theoretical and applied Living History techniques to portray period activities of the early 1800's

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can interact effectively with program staff and visitors
• You can provide training and guidance to staff, and assist with performance and activities

Theatre Arts, Dramatization and Interpretive Programming Skills

• You can carry out public performances, re-enact history and depict authentic period activities, natural history and recreation themes

Writing Skills

• You can create scripts, develop resource, drama materials and program outlines
• You can document historical, recreational and natural history activities, characters and events

Analytical, Problem Solving and Computer Skills

• You can identify and resolve staff and client related issues
• You can use information management systems, computer programs and spreadsheets to prepare materials

Planning and Organizational Skills

• You can work independently and as part of a team to assist with program implementation and evaluation
