The Executive Director will play an important role within the Ontario Government, responsible for strategic direction and collaboration with other ministries, governments and stakeholders to developing a plan that puts Ontario on the path to a low-carbon economy. What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• LEAD the development of provincial policy and strategy to address critical climate change issues with other provincial ministries.

• CHAMPION innovative strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to a low-carbon economy, and for ensure Ontario communities are resilient to the effects of climate change.

• BUILD effective partnerships to build public awareness and complementary actions by other jurisdictions, communities, non-government organizations and the business community that are consistent with Ontario's overall strategy and action plan.

• SEARCH for and INTEGRATE best global practices and adapt them for Ontario's unique circumstances.

• REPRESENT the ministry in a variety of inter-ministerial and cross-jurisdictional forums.

• INSPIRE your team of exceptional professionals by cultivating an environment of learning and growth, independent action and team spirit, to seeks out innovative approaches and achieve measurable results to the climate change challenge.

Senior Leadership Experience

• You are an inspiring, inclusive, trusted and respected executive with experience leading multifunctional teams of professionals to mobilize multiple actors and deliver results.
• You have superior management and strategic leadership abilities to lead and engage people and promote improved policy development and program delivery.
• You are a visionary leader, who has the ability to leverage the skills and expertise of staff and partners to take transformative actions that produce results.
• You have the ability to communicate complex matters cogently for decision-makers.

Technical Skills

• You understand environmental policy, policy development and government decision-making, with proven experience managing processes in a complex, multi stakeholder environment.
• You understand the application of micro and macroeconomics, market-based mechanisms and regulatory measures to improve environmental outcomes as well as their impacts on the economy.
• You also understand economic and financial analysis to ensure policy initiatives are fully assessed and support decision-making.
• You are able to understand and ensure climate change initiatives are supported by evidence to ensure best advice is provided to decision-makers.

Strategic Communications and Relationship Management

• You demonstrate sophisticated political acuity and diplomacy to serve as a credible representative between MOECC and its community partners and stakeholders, to obtain buy-in and resolve issues.
• You model and champion consultative and collaborative approaches to policy development.
• You enjoy leading high-stakes discussions with external stakeholders and the climate community, and yours integrity to promotes transparency.
