We are seeking a highly motivated individual to provide scientific and leadership for Ontario's Forest Health research program.
About the job
You will:
• design, coordinate and conduct a comprehensive applied forest health research program
• publish in scientific journals, and write newsletters report and other publications
• present at scientific meetings, workshops and training courses
• provide expert advice and recommendations for policy and program development
• participate in the development of policy and practices
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You possess a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent as recognized by the province of Ontario.
• You possess a post-graduate degree in forest pathology, ecology, forestry management, or epidemiology; with advanced statistical analysis and modelling.
Technical knowledge:
• You have expert knowledge of three or more of the following subjects: forest pathology, forest diseases and pests, ecology, forest management, epidemiology and advanced statistical analysis and modelling, with good to expert knowledge in forest management, in order to conduct scientific research which is authoritative (typically acquired through the completion of a post-graduate degree in a related discipline from an institution in recognized standing).
• You have knowledge of forest resource management principles practices to implement an applied research program that meets mandate of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
• You have proven equal knowledge of research and approaches required to design, analyze and publish research.
• You have knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act that apply to the workplace and the work being performed.
Analytical and problem-solving skills:
• You have advanced reasoning and problem-solving skills to formulate and test hypotheses and the ability to design a long term research program to solve research problems.
• You have strong technical/analytical skills to plan and perform advanced statistical analyses.
Communications and group leadership skills:
• You have excellent written communication skills to prepare and publish scientific papers and other articles for technical and non-technical audiences.
• You have strong verbal communication skills to present and discuss highly detailed or complex information to different audiences including clients and the public.
• You have developed group leadership and interpersonal skills to lead multidisciplinary research and transfer programs, lead and train staff and create positive collaboration with academia, clients and other agencies.
Project management:
• You have project management skills to plan and coordinate all resources to develop and maintain complex multi-year programs and manage them within budget.
