What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

•Install, operate and maintain continuous and non-continuous air monitoring instrumentation, including portable and mobile-based instrumentation, to provide data in support of the province's air quality monitoring programs
•Acquire, assess, install, operate, and maintain new and emerging air quality monitoring technologies
•Carry out investigative air quality monitoring surveys and special studies in support of the Ministry's compliance, enforcement, and emergency response programs
•Validate and evaluate air quality data and prepare reports and recommendations for further action

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

•Ability to travel within the region occasionally to conduct fieldwork

Environmental Legislation Knowledge:

•You understand and can accurately apply environmental legislation, regulations, standards including the Environmental Protection Act and Ontario's air related regulations

Air Quality Monitoring Knowledge:

•You know the principles, practices and techniques related to air quality monitoring, use of continuous and non-continuous air quality monitoring instrumentation (including portable and mobile-based instrumentation), quality assurance and quality control protocols and practices, and use of related electronics/equipment
•You have experience in applying air monitoring protocols and procedures, designing and conducting air quality monitoring surveys and/or special studies
•You have experience in calibrating, servicing, repairing and modifying air quality monitoring instrumentation and related equipment
•You have knowledge of atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric physics, as applied to air monitoring and the fate and transport of air contaminants

Analytical, Evaluative and Problem-Solving Skills:

•You know how to analyze data and technical information to determine the nature and extent of air quality monitoring and instrumentation problems
•You can design, develop and conduct studies to collect meaningful data and take all necessary measurements
•You are able to assess findings, draw conclusions and develop solutions

Planning, Organizational and Coordinating Skills:

•You are organized and plan in advance to ensure priorities are met in a logical sequence
•You can plan, organize, and coordinate the field components of air monitoring surveys and special studies, and instrument evaluation

Communication, Interpersonal, and Computer Skills:

•You can present technical reports, evaluations and recommendations at public meetings and provide advice and information to clients in a clear manner
•You can develop a variety written materials such as technical reports, standard operations procedures, evaluations, and recommendations
•You can develop and provide clear instruction on standard operation procedures for air monitoring instrumentation and related equipment.
•You know how to use computers and related software (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database applications, data acquisition and telemetry systems) related to air monitoring and reporting
