Job Description:
• Assist in the research, analysis and synthesis of program data, records, jurisdictional scans and other sources of information to inform evidence-based policy development and interpretation with respect to protected areas and conservation lands and waters.
• Assist Natural Resource Conservation Policy Branch staff in the development of options and recommendations on policies with respect to protected areas and conservation lands and waters.
• Liaise with other branches and ministries on policy projects and networks, and assist staff in consulting with other MNRF staff, other Ontario ministries, Aboriginal communities and organizations, and other governments to contribute to policy development and interpretation.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, discussion papers, correspondence, presentation materials, briefing notes, analyses and other written communications to support the development and interpretation of policies regarding protected areas and conservation lands and waters.
• Help to assess the implications and potential effects of proposed changes to current government policies and programs with respect to protected areas and conservation lands and waters.
• Gather, summarize and interpret information from sources such as information systems, websites and jurisdictional scans to inform the development of evidence-based policies.
• Assist in developing and maintaining effective information management systems including research files and databases, electronic tracking/filing systems and hard copy records, and identifying opportunities to improve the management of information.
• Participate in reviews of relevant policy materials led by other MNRF programs.
• Maintain high standards of professional conduct and accountability for maintaining confidentiality of information.
• Managers have the right to assign additional duties.
• The incumbent shall, while in the workplace conduct themselves in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any workplace practices as directed by their immediate supervisor. The incumbent shall report any hazards of which they are aware of to their immediate supervisor.
What you bring to the team
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and policy.
• Knowledge of the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act and related regulations and policies.
• Knowledge and understanding of policy and program development, research and analytical approaches and techniques, and protected area protection and other management principles.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Good judgment and interpersonal skills.
• Working knowledge of computer software packages, including MS Word, MS Excel, and GIS.
Eligibility:
• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
• Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years;
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in a maximum of two placements and must meet the above eligibility criteria for the duration of both placements.
Please Note: The successful candidate will begin at the base-level pay rate and will move up in the pay scale in accordance with the OPSEU collective agreement.
