The Ontario Public Drug Program is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring pharmaceutical services and drug management programs in the province.
About the job
As a Senior Drugs and Therapeutics Advisor, you will:
• provide professional expertise and analysis in relation to pharmacy practice and the Ontario Drug Benefits (ODB) Program
• develop and recommend strategy, policy and program options to support ODB Program, branch activities and external committees
• coordinate and prepare Management Board and Cabinet submissions and other analytical reports with recommendations and respond to issues
• screen, review and assess request for coverage of unlisted drug products for appropriateness
• coordinate and conduct projects for the research, monitoring, analysis and assessment of a broad range of data, issues, trends, legislation and service delivery methodologies
• develop impact analyses and coordinate response/action
• consult with and provide professional advice to internal and external stakeholders on a broad range of drug program issues such as prescribing guidelines, brochures on medication use
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You have a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (B.Sc. Pharm., BSP or equivalent) and licensed by the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
Technical Knowledge
• You have knowledge of pharmacology and health economics, trends in medical practice, disease management and new therapies, technology used in prescribing and developing new drugs.
• You have an understanding of the federal/provincial legislation relating to drugs and pharmacy and medical practice.
• You have knowledge of stakeholder issues in relation to overall purpose of the program.
• You have knowledge of hospital and retail pharmacy practice, medical practice, health care delivery and pharmaceutical industry.
Program Analysis, Policy Development and Research Knowledge and Skills
• You have knowledge of program analysis, policy development, decision-making and approval processes.
• You have evidence-based research methodologies to assess impact/potential usefulness of research proposals.
• You have project management to coordinate studies, data collection and analyses.
Communication, Negotiation and Stakeholder Management Skills
• You have effective written and oral communication to write policy papers, briefing notes, prepare reports, recommendations, correspondence and other materials.
• You have presentation skills to present problem areas with resolution options.
• You have persuasion, negotiation, mediation skills to develop policy options acceptable to stakeholder groups and the government.
Analytical and Problem Solving Skills
• You can assess impact of national/provincial initiatives on Ontario Drug Programs.
• You can analyze and evaluate program and policy options/proposals/submissions and provide recommendations.
• You can analyze and identify impact of drug policy/formulary changes on program resources.
• You can evaluate effectiveness of existing programs.
• You can ensure comprehensive, accurate analysis of all relevant factors in preparing reports.
• You can evaluate suggested amendments to Acts and Regulations such as the Regulated Health Professions Act and Regulations.
• You can conduct/coordinate and research a range of data, issues, trends.
Computer Skills
• You are proficient with computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, internet searches and database analysis.
