Are you highly organized, proactive and looking for a challenge in a fast-paced environment? If so, then join the Ministry of Transportations newly created team leading the Safety, Regulatory Compliance, Emergency Management and Training requirements where you will coordinate the review, preparation and activation of the Remote Northern Transportation Offices' Emergency Planning and Response. This role develops and implements processes and linkages within the branches, division, ministry and manages the operation of the Emergency Management Program (EMP), business continuity, emergency response and security plans for the ministry's' 29 remote airports.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this position, you will:

• Coordinate the organization's emergency management program (including prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery)
• Conduct emergency management exercises in compliance with legislative and procedural requirements
• Provide advice and assistance to various contacts to facilitate the creation of plans, provide advice and recommendations
• Support the emergency manager/incident commander by preparing and operating an Emergency Operations Centre
• Develop the organization's emergency management, emergency response, security and contingency planning procedures

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of the principles, policies, practices and protocols related to emergency management prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
• You have knowledge of related federal and provincial legislation/programs (e.g., Emergency Management and Civil Project Act) to deliver the ministry emergency management program.
• You have strong project management and coordination methods to support emergency management program development projects and develop strategies and operational plans.

Communication Skills:

• You have strong written communication and writing techniques to work with internal and external partners and stakeholders, deliver training, prepare reports, plans, briefing materials and education exercises, and retrieve and manage emergency management program data and information using computer software applications.
• You utilize strong presentation skills to deliver training, explain the ministry's role in emergency management and response, present explanations on complex risk and prevention activities and develop relationships with clients/partners.

Advisory and Consultation Skills:

• You utilize strong consultation skills to lead consultations with clients, partners and stakeholders, defend recommendations and provide advice on emergency management and response issues.
• You have strong interpersonal and persuasion skills to work with and convince clients, partners and stakeholders to accept alternate strategies to deliver prevention, preparedness, response and recovery actions.
• You have developed advisory and facilitation skills to work with program areas, other ministries, governments and industry to develop, implement and maintain the organization's emergency management program.

Analytical and Research Skills:

• You have experience with risk identification and assessment techniques to identify and recommend areas to focus on for the development of plans, conduct risk assessments and respond to emergencies.
• You have experience managing concurrent issues and identifying contentious issues and recommending action to senior staff/management.
• You have the ability to interpret and apply recognized methods, policies and procedures to meet financial/regulatory requirements, and operational and administrative needs.
• You utilize analytical skills to evaluate trends, standards, policies and protocols using multiple sources of information to identify requirements, develop options and make recommendations.
