The Acute and Rehabilitative Care Unit develops health policies, programs, and standards to support access, quality, and value in the delivery of effective and sustainable publicly-funded health care services. The Unit seeks a dedicated results-oriented professional who seeks an active involvement in the transformation of health care delivery at the system level in Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• Exercise leadership in developing health policies, programs, and standards, including designing and implementing strategies, proposed draft legislation and regulations, and funding packages.
• Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships within government and between government and external partners.
• Apply your advanced critical thinking skills and experience to conceptualize and define policy challenges and opportunities at a systems level and recommend creative policy options and solutions using the best available evidence.
• Communicate complex issues in a way that facilitates understanding and decison-making by senior ministry decision makers.
• Develop coherent results-oriented implementation plans to promote behaviour change in the direction of improved access, quality, and value.
• Develop and manage risk mitigation strategies.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.

How do I qualify?

Health Policy Development and Critical Analysis Skills and Abilities:

• You possess demonstrated expertise in health policy development and the use of policy and research tools, system improvement and planning methodologies, and the levers and instruments of behaviour change and performance management.
• You demonstrate well-developed analytical abilities and an aptitude for synthesizing large amounts of complex data coherently, identifying patterns, generating workable options, and communicating findings and proposals clearly to recipients.

Health System Knowledge:

• You understand the structures and processes of the provincial health care system, the relationships between providers, and current dynamics and trends affecting access, quality and value for persons requiring publicly-funded healthcare.
• You possess applied knowledge of how healthcare services are delivered and regulated in Ontario and the role and responsibilities of the provincial government and its agencies and the roles and interests of major health care stakeholder groups.
• You have an understanding of the hospital and/or rehabilitative care sector at both a provincial and operational level.

Project Management and Stakeholder Management Skills:

• You are a proven action-oriented leader who has managed policy projects from concept to implementation.
• You have a reputation for being conscientious, taking initiative, and consistently meeting timelines.
• You have brought teams together around common goals and led successful stakeholder consultation events.
• You have proven written and communication skills, including computer and internet research proficiency.
