The Ministry of Healtha and Long-Term Care is seeking committed, qualified Registered Nurses in the Hamilton and Mississauga region who enjoy working both independently and in a team environment? If this sounds like you, come join the Performance Improvement and Compliance Branch in this key role ensuring compliance in Ontario's Long-Term Care homes across the Province.

Please Note:

• Positions will require extensive travel across the province. Positions may also be required to work in or from new or alternate locations outside of the headquarters or current satellite offices, but within the regional boundaries of the Service Area Office (SAO).

About the job

You will:
• Monitor, evaluate and promote the health, safety, comfort and rights of residents in long-term care homes through the inspection program.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
• Analyze information to inform care and service improvements, particularly in the areas of nursing and utilize skills to evaluate and assess the provision of clinical care of complex Long-Term Care home residents.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• Current certificate of competence as a Registered Nurse from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• You must possess a valid class “G2” driver's licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario to drive on Ontario highways to conduct field work.
• Be able to travel extensively and work irregular hours.

Health Care Knowledge and Experience:

• You have demonstrated knowledge of and experience in clinical care and administrative management of Long-Term Care homes or health care operations.
• You have knowledge of and ability to understand, interpret and apply relevant legislation pertaining to Long-Term Care homes to ensure compliance.

Communication, Problem-Solving, Negotiation and Judgment Skills:

• You have demonstrated oral and written communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate legislative requirements, write detailed inspection reports, and present information to stakeholders, the public and Long-Term Care Home Operators.
• You possess clinical judgment to establish priorities on health care issues, assess and evaluate systems and to enforce current Long-Term Care home legislation aimed at ensuring quality of care for residents of Long-Term Care homes.
• You have demonstrated interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills to foster cooperation and resolve sensitive issues with Long-Term Care homes and other providers.

Leadership, Organization and Analytical Skills:

• You have demonstrated leadership, tact and diplomacy skills to determine the appropriate action to take based on data analysis and evidence.
• You have demonstrated organizational skills to function independently in a high volume environment.
• You have proven knowledge and experience in conducting inspections.
• You have demonstrated analytical skills to analyze information and evaluate evidence.

Computer Skills:

• You have the ability to work with computers using word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.
