The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is looking for someone with knowledge, skills and experience in pedology, soil survey and pedometrics. If you possess such skills and knowledge, and have highly developed interpersonal and project management skills, then this position may be for you!
About the job
Working in a team environment, you will:
• lead provincial development, coordination and implementation of strategies, policies and initiatives related to pedology, soil survey and pedometrics
• coordinate projects designed to assess the applicability of new or existing practices, products, technology, research, programs and policies to Ontario conditions
• lead the upgrade and revision of the Ontario legacy digital soil type maps and the production of soil property maps using digital soil mapping procedures
• participate in field campaigns to calibrate and verify soil map units and to collect detailed soil profile/horizon morphological, physical and chemical properties
• ensure a competitive and environmentally responsible agrifood sector
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirement:
• You have a minimum valid driver's licence class of “G” or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.Technical expertise:
• You have knowledge and understanding of scientific theories, principles and practices of pedology and its relation to agricultural production, business management and marketing.
• You have an understanding of related disciplines in the agricultural industry to review new and existing methods and investigate their suitability for Ontario conditions.
• You have knowledge of research methods and practices to investigate viability and applicability of new methods, techniques and technology.
• You have knowledge of computer technologies for acquiring, managing, maintaining and analyzing land resource information such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), image analysis, global positioning systems (GPS) and terrain analysis.Other essential skills:
• You can communicate concisely, professionally and effectively.
• You have demonstrated project management, planning and coordination skills.
• You understand consultation and group facilitation techniques, needs assessment and program evaluation methods to consult with clients on program and information needs.
