Bring your outstanding ability to facilitate the development of policy in support of natural resources conservation by providing expert advice and support to program to staff and management in the identification of policy and program strategies, options and partnerships.

About the job

You will:
• conduct and/or lead the development of provincial natural heritage and wetland policies and procedures;
• conduct technical research and environmental scans to identify issues and develop options and recommendations;
• participate on inter-jurisdictional committees to address underlying problems and find potential solutions;
• provide advice and support to branch staff;
• promote the objectives, principles and strategies of the natural heritage and wetlands program to agencies, stakeholders, clients and the general public.

What you bring to the team


Policy Development and Research skills

• You have demonstrated ability to plan/conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of data from a variety of sources, including monitoring of trends, direction and issues.
• You have the ability to use conceptual thinking skills to analyse impacts of policies/programs, assess competing interests of stakeholders, interpret broad guidelines, identify issues and discern salient points.
• You have applied knowledge of policy and program evaluation/development principles and techniques to lead/participate in the development of recommendations for policy and program change.
• You have an understanding of existing legislation, provincial resource management programs and issues and government strategic directions related to sustainable development and biodiversity conservation.

Project Management skills

• You have proven organizational and leadership skills as they relate to directing task teams.

Communication and Interpersonal skills

• You have the demonstrated ability to consult and negotiate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders to build consensus on policy directions and initiatives.
• You have proven ability to maintain strong relationships with partners.
• You can respond effectively to issues, provide sound advice, explain recommendations and represent the ministry on inter-jurisdictional working committees.
• You can tactfully communicate ministry policy/position on politically sensitive issues.
• You have experience preparing various written products such as reports, briefing materials and correspondence.
