If you have strong project management skills, proven experience in research and analysis, and knowledge of the energy industry, consider these challenging opportunities in the Renewable Energy Facilitation Office.

These positions in the Renewable Facilitation and Analysis Unit (2) and Renewable Energy Policy Unit (1) conduct strategic policy development research and analysis, lead/participate in multi-disciplinary, intra/inter-ministerial project teams, and provide advice to senior management in support of the development and implementation of policies and programs related to renewable energy.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• conduct research and analysis of technical and economic aspects of renewable energy policies and programs;
• identify risks, develop mitigation strategies and advise senior executives and corporate management committee members on decisions affecting ministry policies and programs;
• assess the impact of renewable energy policy and program initiatives, analyse and develop policy and program options and strategies; prepare and/or coordinate supporting briefing materials, presentations, reports, discussion papers and correspondence;
• provide consultation, expertise and advice to assist proponents in navigating elements of renewable energy project development from initial scoping, and regulatory approvals through to construction and electricity generation;
• consult with internal and external partners and stakeholders in the renewable energy sector.

How do I qualify?

Analytical and Research Skills:

• You possess the analytical and problem solving skills to evaluate directions, policies and standards from multiple sources, to develop options and make recommendations within policy, program and legislative compliance.
• You have proven experience conducting research, including quantitative, qualitative and financial analysis.
• You are able to identify issues, and risks of initiatives and assess impacts on policy and program options.
• You have proven experience developing and presenting options and recommendations supporting senior management decision-making.

Communications and Interpersonal Skills:

• You possess interpersonal, consultation and advisory skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships/partnerships with internal and external stakeholders; and to provide advice and interpretation of policy, guidelines, legislation, etc.
• You have a demonstrated ability to provide briefings to senior ministry officials through presentations, briefing notes and reports.

Specialized Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, techniques and methodologies of public policy development.
• You have knowledge of the field of energy, sustainable development, energy supply, demand and planning, renewable energy, and environmental and regulatory issues.
• You understand the regulatory role of the ministry, the energy environment in Canada, international regulatory developments, and ministry legislation and regulation associated with Ontario's energy sector, including the Green Energy Act, 2009, in order to manage and facilitate implementation of renewable energy projects and ensure compliance.

Project Management and Organizational Skills:

• You have knowledge of project management theory and techniques to provide project management and oversight, consult on project processes, review project mandates, objectives and deadlines, and provide briefings on results and progress.
• You have experience in dealing with frequent unexpected work demands on short notice, last minutes changes to deadlines, and tight time pressures, with frequent conflicting work demands due to multiple, concurrent projects and activities.
