Are you a hydrologist keen to work in a research team environment with Aquatic Research and Monitoring Section? If so, do not miss this opportunity to become part of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, providing scientific data analysis, and applying your lab and field expertise in hydrology.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• participate in the planning, preparation and delivery of hydrology field and laboratory research projects
• operate specialized sampling equipment
• conduct data processing and statistical analyses, prepare data summaries and contribute to scientific reports
• conduct spatial analyses using geographical information systems
• provide training to field and laboratory staff, students and partners

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You must possess a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent as recognized in the Province of Ontario.
• You possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
• You are able to travel to remote locations frequently and for multiple days.
• You have the physical ability to handle heavy equipment and work under adverse weather conditions.

Technical expertise:

• You have working knowledge of scientific hydrologic principles, concepts and practices and their application to water management.
• You have knowledge of riverine processes and environmental flow methods and the linkages between hydrologic processes and aquatic ecology.
• You have demonstrated knowledge of hydrological field sampling and monitoring methods in order to design and implement field programs.
• You have applied knowledge of experimental design and statistical methods (e.g. time-series, spatial) to analyze data and contribute to scientific reports.
• You have a demonstrated ability to operate specialized sampling equipment (e.g. pressure transducers, acoustic Doppler, velocimeters, Doppler river-profilers, turbidity sensors etc.) to ensure data quality.
• You have knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Interpersonal and communications skills:

• You possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate scientific information clearly and concisely with staff, the public, outside agencies, and research collaborators with tact and good judgment.
• You can effectively prepare written material for publication as presentations, technical reports, and scientific literature.

Organizational skills:

• You possess strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects concurrently and solve problems.
• You can work in a team environment with other staff and partners to meet required deliverables.

Computer skills:

• You have demonstrated computer skills with statistical, geographic information systems, computer programming, word processing, spreadsheet, database development, and presentation software to manage complex datasets and information.
