About the job
In this role, you will:
• coordinate the regional fire behaviour, prescribed burn and fire investigation programs
• provide leadership and technical advice to fire management staff and external clients
• coordinate fire behaviour training
• prepare reports, summaries and maps on predicted fire behaviour, fire effects and environmental impacts
• lead the development and review of prescribed burn and slash pile burns
• provide input in development of policies and strategies for prescribed burning, fire investigation and fire behaviour
• perform fire command and service functions
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
• You have a valid driver's licence.
• You have the ability to travel to conduct field work.
Technical knowledge:
• You have knowledge of forest fire management policies and procedures.
• You have knowledge of fire behaviour, prescribed burn guidelines and principles, and fire investigation.
• You have knowledge and understanding of the impacts of applied fire on the landscape and on society.
• You have proven ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and acts including the Forest Fires Prevention Act, Environmental Bill of Rights, and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
People skills:
• You have strong communication and presentation skills and are able to provide advice and present recommendations.
• You have effective interpersonal skills and are able to facilitate cooperation between clients and partners.
Organizational and project management skills:
• You have proven organizational, planning and project management skills to conduct assigned projects and meet tight deadlines.
• You have proven group leadership skills.
General skills:
• You have proven analytical and problem solving skills to conduct reviews and audits, evaluate plans and make recommendations.
• You are proficient with computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and email software programs.
