Work Description:
- Promote the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and marine policing program to the public.
- Support OPP marine operations through: vessel maintenances/cleaning, accompanying officers on regular marine patrols.
- Complete research assignments/projects, compile statistical information and other administrative tasks.
- Plan, organize, coordinate and manage daily assigned work.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
You must meet the mandatory program eligibility requirements on the first day of employment to be eligible for these positions.
1) Age: For the position of Marine Assistant, you must be a minimum age of 18 years. Some positions require you to be aged 18-24 years (or 18-29 years for a person with a disability).
2) Residency: Student must be a resident of Ontario during the summer of employment.
3) Work Status: You must be eligible to work in Canada.
4) Student Status: You must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester), or within 6 months of graduation by the first day of employment.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- You apply your oral communication skills to promote major marine events, the marine policing program and the OPP (e.g. assemble displays on marine safety, participate in summer festivals, distribute safe boating material).
- You apply your written communications skills to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports, document findings, record data).
- You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and participate in meetings.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- You apply your investigative skills to assist in marine checks on recreational boats for safety equipment, personal water craft licences and safe operations of vessel.
Organizational Skills
- You apply your administrative and organizational skills to maintain records, daily log entries, daily statistics etc.
- You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines.
Other Requirements
- Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation
- You are at least 18 years of age.
- You must have a valid Ontario G2 Driver's Licence or equivalent (or higher).
- You must have a valid and current Pleasure Craft Operators Card.
- You must have valid and current CPR and First Aid certification.
- You must be able to swim.
