About the job

• plan, coordinate, implement and monitor technical/operational forestry, fish and wildlife, lands and waters and aggregate program activities
• organize field projects, monitor progress and results of projects and administer the compliance processes
• provide technical/operational/group leadership, guidance and advice through consultation, negotiations, and conflict resolution
• ensuring consistent application of legislation, regulations, policies and procedures and implement compliance plans and field inspections
• provide testimonial evidence in court and legal tribunals
• support long range planning teams by providing technical input to land use and resource management planning decisions
• communicate resource management program information to the public, clients, partners, resource industries and Aboriginal peoples
• lead the technical and operational aspects of water management program activities including the operation and maintenance of water control structures, flood and emergency response and erosion control

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario and the ability to travel within the service area.

Technical knowledge and skills:

• You have strong knowledge of forestry, fish and wildlife, lands and waters, aggregates legislation, activities, administrative policies/procedures, licencing and permitting.
• You have knowledge of compliance inspection/investigation procedures to investigate infractions, determine corrective action and provide technical information and evidence at legal proceedings.
• You have knowledge of land use and resource management planning processes to contribute your expertise and technical advice to planning exercises.
• You have knowledge of other resource management programs (Fish and Wildlife, Aggregate, Lands and Waters) and relevant safety legislation.
• You have knowledge of personal computers and various software programs including word-processing, data base, electronic mail, internet and spreadsheet applications to prepare correspondence and reports, input and retrieve data, prepare budgets and track expenditures.

Planning and coordination skills:

• You have the demonstrated ability and experience to plan, lead/coordinate and implement forestry, fish and wildlife, lands and aggregates programs, projects and partnership activities, including training.
• You have planning and coordination skills to coordinate input into compliance plans, and support resource management planning regarding forestry matters.

Analytical and problem solving skills

• You have proven analytical and problem solving skills to review and analyze data, identify compliance issues, and recommend management actions.
• You can interpret results of program implementation, identify shortfalls, and determine corrective actions.
• You can interpret and apply relevant safety legislation and have demonstrated experience working in compliance with acts and regulations.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have well-developed interpersonal and skills to interact with staff, industry, resource users, Aboriginal peoples, and the general public to promote understanding and discuss sensitive resources decisions.
• You have strong communication skills to prepare written products, make presentations, and participate in briefings, public meetings, and conduct training.
