Are you seeking an opportunity to apply your unparalleled organizational and people skills? As a Volunteer Services Coordinator, you will develop, co-ordinate and implement a volunteer service and community partnership program to meet the needs of the Quinte Detention Centre.

Please note: This position is Regular Part-Time working 21.75 hours/week.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• identify volunteer program needs in consultation with program heads as well as plan, develop and implement approved programs
• monitor and evaluate established programs in relation to institutional goals and inmates needs
• co-ordinate the recruitment, screening, orientation, training, placement and supervision of volunteers and monitor their performance
• provide mentorship, advice and support to volunteers by providing periodic and ongoing professional development and training opportunities
• ensure volunteers adhere to Ministry standards, policies and procedures as well as identify and resolve routine and complex problems
• plan, organize and co-ordinate annual recognition events
• orient new volunteer staff and promote programs through on-going communication
• liaise with institutional staff to monitor volunteer participation in programs

What you bring to the team


Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

• you have demonstrated knowledge of the theories, principles and objectives of a wide variety of volunteer programs, services and community resources
• you understand institutional operating procedures, standing orders and related manuals pertaining to volunteer programs, practices and procedures
• you can interpret and apply relevant legislation (i.e. Ministry of Correctional Services Act, Criminal Code of Canada, Child and Family Services Act) used in training and supervising professional agencies and volunteers
• you understand institutional administrative procedures to establish records on volunteers
• you can resolve problems related to volunteer performance and assess volunteer suitability when screening applicants as well as investigate concerns and resolve performance problems

Communication, Interpersonal and Relationship Management Skills:

• you can prepare presentations, convey information and explain the nature of the volunteer programs
• you can establish and maintain communication and obtain support for volunteer activities by attending community meetings, and speaking on volunteerism
• you can establish and maintain relationships as well as supervise and monitor the performance of volunteers

Computer Skills:

• you are proficient with various computer software applications to prepare reports, correspondence and maintain statistics (i.e. computerized inmate management systems, spreadsheet, databases and word processing)
