The Learning and Curriculum Division has a rewarding opportunity for a policy leader who is committed to advancing elementary/secondary curriculum policy and assessment and evaluation standards to support improved student achievement and well-being in Ontario.

The successful candidate will provide leadership, vision and direction for the development and implementation of the education curriculum and assessment policy framework, as part of a transformational leadership team. You will also direct and support initiatives for the Ministry of Education (EDU) to deliver on the government's strategic objective to improve student achievement, equity and well-being to meet the education challenges of both present day and the future.

About the job

In this key executive leadership role, this position will be responsible for:

• Directing the planning, design, and development of the ministry province-wide education curriculum and assessment policy agenda, framework and strategy for publicly funded elementary and secondary education in Ontario.

• Leading the planning and delivery of the Teaching and Learning in a Digital World Strategy.

• Overseeing the development of the provincial e-learning strategy, and the planning and delivery of the ministry's e-Learning Ontario programs.

• Leading the ministry's partnership relationship with TV Ontario related to e-learning programming across the province.

• Directing the planning, development and delivery of elementary and secondary education teaching/learning resources policy and related curriculum initiatives.

• Ensuring accountable student achievement measurement and an assessment policy framework.

• Providing direction for the establishment and delivery of plans and monitoring models for the field implementation of the ministry education curriculum.

• Leading the ongoing management of ministry partnership relationships, and engagement with school boards, municipal authorities, directors of education, school administrators and staff.

• Manages research projects and the development of options and recommendations for legislation, policies, programs, accountability frameworks, procedures, standards, and guidelines related to the broad range of curriculum and assessment policy initiatives.

• You are able to leverage current and emerging technology to improve outcomes, tracking and analytics.
• You have, or can quickly gain an understanding of the agenda, direction, priorities, and key policy and fiscal commitments.

Relationship Management/Communications:

• You are experienced at building working relationships with ministry partners.
• You can establish effective relationships with senior ministry officials to assist government in delivering on and setting priorities.
• You have excellent interpersonal skills and work positively with others.
• You are skilled at providing advice and briefings regarding issues, negotiations and agreements to senior executives or officials.

Judgement, Tact and Political Acuity:

• You have demonstrated a high degree of political acuity to anticipate and respond to politically sensitive situations.
