The Ontario Police College (OPC) is designed to provide a complete training program for Ontario police services, from recruitment through supervisory and management levels.

About the job
•Prepare, cook and bake complete meals according to standard recipes, instructions and scheduled approved menus
•Substitutes menu or menu items due to changes in the numbers to be served, availability of food supplies and other factors, as required
•Test new recipes, as requested. Maintains recipe records
•Ensure serving of food in approved portions, and serves meals, when required
•Ensure the cleanliness, safety and efficiency of all food/bakery operations, equipment and work area, and inform supervisor of the need to repair equipment
•Provide instruction and oversees the work of other kitchen staff, as necessary.
•Assist with and/or receives, checks and stores supplies, as required.
•Perform other duties, as assigned.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
•Certification as Journeyman Cook/Chef.
•Must be able to pass an OPP background security investigation.
Knowledge and Experience
You have knowledge and skills in:
•cooking and baking methods, procedures and standards applicable to an institutional kitchen
•volume cooking and baking, to prepare, cook and bake various foods for meals
•instructional methods and techniques to instruct and/or oversee the work of kitchen staff
•the use of kitchen knives and other items to prepare food
•knowledge of applicable health and safety components of legislation (e.g., WHMIS) to ensure the safe operation of equipment and kitchen cleaning products comprised of chemicals
Other Essential Skills
You can:
•ascertain the suitability of food for inclusion in meal plans when tasting recipes.
•ascertain appropriate menu or menu items within a range of options when substitution of regular menu is required
•identify the need for equipment repairs, and informs supervisor.
•observe the condition of food/bakery operations, related equipment and work area, and identifies the need for cleaning
Communication Skills
•you have oral communication skills to take food orders when serving staff and students
•you can provide instruction to kitchen staff
