About the job
In this role, you will:
• provide professional assistance in support of the development of all forest management plans within the district to provide for the sustainability of forest ecosystems
• develop and monitor for compliance and effectiveness the implementation of the forest management component of the Crown and, where appropriate, the private land resource management programs within the district
• provide professional forestry expertise in support of the district integrated resource management programs and forestry advice to the general public, local forest industry and other external agencies
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirement:
• You must be eligible to be registered as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) and have the ability to obtain designation from the Ontario Professional Foresters Association within 12 months.
Technical expertise:
• knowledge of forest management planning requirements and practices to assist in the development of forest management plans
• knowledge of the theories, methodologies and practices of forest resource management to provide professional forest management advice, and to achieve the ministry's goal of ecological sustainability
• knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply Ontario's forest legislation, regulations and policies, programs and regulatory mechanisms to coordinate the development of forest management plans and related forest planning products
• knowledge of Ontario's forest industry to ensure forest management plan requirements are fully satisfied
Analytical and problem-solving skills:
• reasoning, problem-solving and analytical skills to analyse, review and make recommendations related to major, minor and administrative amendments to district forest management plans, analyze annual reports, and determine program effectiveness
Interpersonal and communication skills:
• interpersonal and communication skills to lead team members, provide advice and recommendations on staffing, resourcing and scheduling, prepare submissions, briefing and communication materials and make presentations
Organizational and project management skills:
• organizational, coordination and project management skills to provide professional assistance to the Management Forester and to coordinate local citizen committee meetings
• ability to work under pressure while motivating other team members to achieve assigned objectives within strict timelines
Computer proficiency:
• knowledge of computer applications such as internet, database management, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, communication, spatial analysis and modelling software to prepare briefing materials, correspondence, reports, etc.
• knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and current technologies such as spatial analysis and modeling tools
