Bring your excellent project management and organizational skills to this role as Special Events Coordinator where you will coordinate the development, execution and evaluation of all event based programming associated with the Canada 150th celebrations, outreach activities, event partnerships and volunteer programs for Huronia Historical Parks (HHP).

About the job

In this role, you will:
• Plan and coordinate the development, execution and evaluation of all event based programming
• Identify potential promotional partners to assist in facilitating event business objectives
• Coordinate regular and student staff deployment for events, as well as event volunteers and partner support
• Work collaboratively with the Marketing Department to develop and implement a communication strategy and plan and prepare a range of communications products
• Represent Huronia Historical Parks at external meetings or conferences regarding special events
• Regularly liaise with Ministry staff and other OPS staff on collaborative efforts to extend events and attractions to other areas of the province and to new target groups
• Contribute to the business development strategies by evaluating organizational effectiveness/success of programs
• Investigate, make recommendations and assist with drafting contractual agreements and financial terms between HHP and its event partners and service providers
• Plan and monitor approved budgets for ongoing project initiatives to ensure that budget allocation is not exceeded
• Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and the Employer's occupational health and safety policies.

Note: Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required to facilitate special event delivery.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You must possess a Valid Class G Driver's Licence to travel between the sites, attend meetings and pick up supplies

Business Knowledge and Skills:

• You have knowledge of significant large public event design and implementation techniques and best practices with specialization in events planning, project management and execution
• You are able to initiate, plan, coordinate and implement a range of special events and assist with new initiatives
• You have knowledge of communications planning to develop and implement a communication strategy and plan and market special events, promotions and partnership opportunities
• You are familiar with the tourism industry, leisure and entertainment sectors, including current trends

Leadership and Project Management Skills:

• You have knowledge of project management methods to plan, direct, implement and evaluate multiple, concurrent project initiatives within established deadlines, budgets and deliverables
• You possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills to oversee a range of staff, including volunteers and third parties

Oral and Written Communication Skills:

• You have excellent oral and written communication skills to represent HHP at meetings
• You are able to prepare written materials and reports in a variety of formats
• You have excellent writing and editing techniques to write and edit a range of communications products to inform marketing of the special events, promotions and partnership opportunities

Analytical, Research and Problem Solving Skills:

• You have excellent analytical skills to assess market trends and customer survey data to plan and coordinate a range of special events
• You have strong research skills to conduct historical research to support and enhance existing special event programming and to support new initiatives
• You are able to resolve a range of ongoing issues in a timely manner to ensure success of all project initiatives

Computer Skills:

• You are proficient with Microsoft Office software programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) to prepare own materials and presentations
