Are you a dynamic and strategic thinker who enjoys working in a high-profile and multi-disciplinary environment? Bring your considerable experience in project management and interest in environmental decision making to the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change's Environmental Approvals Branch. You will work on major, complex environmental assessment projects related to natural resource development, resource recovery operations and transit infrastructure in a fast paced setting.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• You will provide strategic project leadership to the coordination and planning of activities related to the review of environmental assessments
• You will assist in the development of policy recommendations for systemic improvements to better achieve Ministry objectives
• You will establish effective working relationships with government agencies and external stakeholders to ensure adequate technical support for environmental assessment projects
• You will thrive work in a fast paced, busy environment working on exciting high profile projects including resource recovery facilities; transit and transportation proposals; natural resource projects, etc
• You will guide the coordination of provincial and federal Environmental Assessment processes; providing support for policy development initiatives such as climate change, cumulative effects, and source protection as well as with other legislation and initiatives

How do I qualify?

Technical Skills:

• You have knowledge and understanding of current emerging environmental trends and issues specifically related to environmental assessment
• You have knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of environmental and land use planning and knowledge of resource management

Knowledge of Environmental Legislation:

• You are able to interpret and apply environmental legislation (e.g. Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, Environmental Bill of Rights, Ontario Water Resources Act)
• You have a good understanding of the legislative process

Project Management Knowledge and Leadership Skills:

•You have experience using project management, planning and control methodologies, to lead, coordinate, participate in and support northern environmental and resource development projects, identify issues, risks and opportunities.

• You have demonstrated work experience to evaluate and define project management / program requirements, identify options and make recommendations, and coordinate and implement processes for projects and their components

Communication, Consultation and Conflict Resolution Skills:

• You have oral and written communication skills to prepare formal presentations and reports
• You have consultation and mediation skills to elicit cooperation from, obtain, provide and share project data/information with stakeholders, management, program staff and consultants / contractors
•You have knowledge of the government's corporate Aboriginal policies and frameworks, including the Crown's Duty to Consult
