Bring your vision and experience in emergency response and management to the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management and be a part of building a strong emergency management program in Ontario!

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Lead, coordinate and monitor emergency management programs
• Handle emergency management issues including prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery
• Support municipalities/ First Nations/ministries and other organizations
• Be a member of the provincial emergency response team and may be deployed with little notice for extended periods of time

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have minimum valid driver's license class of “G” or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario in order to access emergency, exercise and training sites not accessible by public transportation
• You have a willingness to work irregular and extended hours particularly during emergencies and be on-call on a regular basis
• You have ability to travel frequently within Ontario and occasionally to other provinces/territories and USA.

Emergency Management Knowledge and Experience

• You have working knowledge of emergency management theories and principles (i.e. Incident Management System, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) to assist and advise communities, senior management, and stakeholders on emergency responses
• You have a strong knowledge of municipal administration, operations, governance and practices (i.e. Municipal Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act)
• You have experience interpreting, applying, and providing advice on emergency management operations (i.e. Incident Management System), acts and legislation (i.e. Emergency Management & Civil Protection Act), and municipal/provincial/federal programs (i.e. Ontario Critical Infrastructure Assurance Program, Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program)

Proven Communication, Interpersonal, Leadership Skills

• You have political acuity skills to allow you to interact with a variety of internal/external stakeholders, lead meetings, and address community issues
• You have writing skills to prepare briefing notes, media documents, and public education materials
• You have presentation skills to deliver training programs
• You have demonstrated cultural sensitivity to relate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds

Analytical Skills

• You can use sound judgment in critical situations to assess and provide advice in emergency situations as well as evaluate proposals
• You have proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and under pressure to meet tight deadlines

Technical Skills

• You are proficient with software applications including word processing, presentations as well as the internet
• You can use audiovisual technologies, radio equipment, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

A one-hour 'optional' information session will be held on March 7, 2017 at 7:00 PM via webinar. To register for the webinar, please contact precious.headley@ontario.ca. The session will cover topics such as the structure and mandate of the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management and Emergency Management Field Operations, and current priorities for the position.
