Do you have a unique combination of multi-modal transportation and data analytics and visualization experience? Bring your technical skills and transportation planning knowledge to this challenging opportunity within Ontario Ministry of Transportation's Planning Branch.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• use multimodal transportation models and quantitative analysis to lead the development of new data visualizations and tools to support the Ministry of Transportation's iCorridor website (www.mto.gov.on.ca/icorridor)
• use Geographic Information System (GIS) software and other software and programming languages related to statistical analysis and data visualization to develop and present transportation planning and performance metrics
• apply analysis of large datasets multi-million-records, and apply data fusion techniques to develop new and meaningful performance metrics for transportation.
• determine appropriate metrics to support policy recommendations
use programming languages in order to automate the retrieval and application of data
• Present the results of your analysis to a range of technical and non-technical staff, and senior management, to support the Ministry's planning and policy objectives
• Represent the Ministry on multi-ministry and external committees to support the government's goals on open data and evidence-based planning

How do I qualify?

Knowledge of Multi-modal Transportation

• you know multi-modal transportation planning theory and practices, including the relationships between transportation, land-use, and economic performance in an Ontario context.
• you can assess transportation demand trends and needs in Ontario
• you can plan, design and coordinate large planning and research studies
• you are a creative thinker and can recommend and develop new planning metrics and visualizations to support the Ministry's analytical needs.

Data Forecasting and Analysis

• you know theory and practice of travel demand forecasting and transportation system performance analysis.
• you have the ability to interpret and advise on the performance of the transportation system, and the impacts of various policies and programs on its efficiency and effectiveness.
• you have a demonstrated experience in analysing large datasets and applying data fusion and data visualization tools to provide insight on complex transportation issues.

Computer and Project Management Skills

• you have expert skills in office software, database software, and specialized software to perform travel demand forecasting and analysis (e.g. GIS software, transportation modelling software).
• you can apply your advanced knowledge of programming languages to automate data processing routines and display information dynamically on a website.
• you have advanced knowledge of software and programming languages related to transportation modelling, GIS applications, and data visualization to support data spatial and aspatial data visualizations in a transportation context.
• you can manage projects, set priorities, lead multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate project activities with partners

Communication and Advisory Skills

• you have excellent oral and written communications skills prepare and present briefings on the results of your technical analysis to senior management, external stakeholders, and non-expert audiences.
• you are proficient in graphic design techniques as they apply to the presentation of maps and aspatial data visualizations, including visual layout, iconography colour palette choice, and copy-editing.
• you have strong relationship-building skills, which you can leverage to lead multi-ministry and multi-jurisdictional task forces and committees on planning data and analysis, and to develop new data sharing and analysis partnerships within MTO and with other Ministries and external clients.
