The Social Justice Tribunals Ontario (SJTO) is a cluster of eight adjudicative tribunals with a mandate to resolve applications and appeals brought under nine statutes relating to child and family services oversight, youth justice, compensation for victims of violent crime, human rights, residential tenancies, disability support and other social assistance and special education.

Consider this position within the SJTO at the Human Rights Tribunals of Ontario where you will coordinate all aspects of front-line case management operations and services by managing staff; ensuring adherence to established legislation, rules, guidelines, policies, standards and procedures; maintaining stakeholder relations; and resolving sensitive and/or contentious issues.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this position, you will:
• lead and manage staff engaged in case management operations for an adjudicative tribunal of SJTO which provides dispute resolution between parties through the mediation and adjudication of cases
• supervise staff performing case management activities and support the tribunal strategy to provide efficient customer-focused services that meet the needs of the parties and the public, in accordance with SJTO's corporate goals and objectives
• direct staff in the interpretation and application of SJTO and legislation (i.e. Statutory Powers Procedures Act (SPPA), the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Prevention policy)
• oversee individual cases involving contentious and sensitive enquirers, stressful circumstances, events and/or emotionally fragile parties
• develop and maintain critical relationships with adjudicators to ensure effective coordination, discussion and resolution of files or cases including dealing directly with Vice Chairs and Associate Chairs

Case Management, Dispute Resolution, Interpersonal, Stakeholder and Change Management Skills:

• You have knowledge of case management systems and operations, procedures and practices including application intake, assessment and processing principles
• You can resolve staff, client and stakeholder issues and disputes
• you can develop strong working relationships and partnerships with stakeholders
• You can evaluate cases, complaints and problems in order to develop solutions and resolve sensitive, unprecedented and contentious issues

Communication and Presentation Skills:

• You can communicate effectively by presenting information to a broad range of contacts including stakeholders, staff and clients
• You can prepare correspondence, briefing notes, reports and recommendations for consideration by the Registrar

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• You understand the administrative justice system, legal administration policies and process, dispute resolution processes, and the role of an adjudicative tribunal
• You understand and have sound working knowledge of quasi-judicial tribunals and relevant legislation (i.e. Ontario Human Rights Code).
• You are proficient with various computer operations, software applications and program databases to prepare correspondence, briefing notes, reports and maintain case management systems
