Are you an experienced operating engineer? If so, consider this opportunity with the Ministry of Education, Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf.

The Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf is one of the three provincial schools for deaf students in Ontario and serves both residential and day students. The large, modern building includes classrooms, recreational and dining facilities, and student residences.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• operate and maintain stationary boilers, wall hung gas/steam heating units, rooftop heating and ventilation, and a central water softener system
• work independently or as a team with other maintenance mechanics and trades to move equipment and to replace or refurbish filters, pumps and controls
• respond to service calls and trouble-shoot equipment
• maintain inventory of parts and materials, attach service tags, and keep logs of maintenance activities and chemical usage

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

You have:
• Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) licence, class 4 stationary engineer
• Valid Class 'G' drivers licence, or equivalent

Mechanical knowledge:

• You have substantial knowledge, at a journeyman's level, of the operation and maintenance of gas-fired boilers, hot water heaters, and circulation pumps.
• You have working knowledge of industrial water systems, including mechanical and chemical treatments.
• You have working knowledge of building automation systems, controls, low voltage, and electrical circuitry.
• You have good mechanical skills and experience using hand tools to perform repairs and installations.
• You can read and interpret blue prints, specifications, shop drawings and manufacturer specifications.

Other essential skills:

• You have experience maintaining accurate and complete records including work orders, preventative maintenance logs, service tags, chemical usage records, inventory records, and warranty information.
• You have experience working with a variety of policies, procedures and legislation such as OHSA, WHMIS, and building codes.
• You have good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• You can work independently and as part of team.
• You can organize and manage your time to complete assigned tasks.
