Are you a policy focused strategic thinker looking for an opportunity to contribute to the development of provincial policies? If so, consider joining our team of policy professionals who develop, coordinate and maintain provincial policies and program development relating to Crown forest management.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• provide policy advice and expertise related to forest management
• lead and/or coordinate research project teams comprised of ministry and industry staff on Crown Forest matters to ensure a consistent approach
• work within a multi-disciplinary environment, regularly interacting with aboriginal communities, tribal councils, municipal governments, industry and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as well as other ministry divisions and government ministries
• play a key role in participating on staff level intergovernmental and external stakeholder committees, task groups, partnerships and business relationships

Please note that occasional travel is expected in order to attend meetings and consultations, throughout the province.

How do I qualify?

Policy and program knowledge:

• knowledge of policy and program development principles and techniques to lead and/or coordinate the development of provincial policies and programs related to Crown forests
• knowledge of the policy and legislative process, government strategic direction and priorities, existing legislation (e.g. Crown Forest
Sustainability Act, Environmental Assessment Act.), regulations, and practical knowledge of the Forest Management Planning Manual

Interpersonal and communication skills:

• communication skills to prepare detailed technical reports, proposals, briefing notes, communications, and presentations, as well as respond to issues, consult with and provide advice to stakeholders
• persuasion and negotiation skills to resolve issues and disputes with stakeholders and staff with opposing views
• consultation, facilitation and presentation skills to exchange information and make presentations to diverse internal and external audiences

Analytical and research skills:

• advanced research, analytical, and investigative skills including ability to determine appropriate data and information sources, survey techniques, analyze and summarize quantitative and qualitative research, trends analysis, and prepare analytical reports

Project management skills:

• project management skills to coordinate research projects, develop project plans, and deliver operational and technical policies and programs to standards and timelines
• knowledge of program design and evaluation techniques to provide project leadership and expertise in the development, evaluation and communication of strategic policies, programs, regulations and/or legislation

Computer Proficiency:

• ability to use standard productivity software and tools to research and prepare own project and presentation materials, and to maintain project data
